Ted Bowden, respected official on the amateur boxing scene for many years, passed away recently following a long battle with cancer.

The 73-year-old had been a driving force at the Barking boxing club where many young champions were developed, including Colin McMillan, who went on to win the world featherweight title.

His son Tony Bowden launched his career at the club and later earned international honours and reached the ABA final at the Repton BC.

Ted Bowden served on the London and national ABA committees and in later years played a key role in the Essex Schools’ ABA, before retiring to live in Nottinghamshire.

The funeral service takes place at Mansfield crematorium, Derby Road, Mansfield NG18 5BJ on Friday at 12.30pm.
