The top riders in the world will take to the Arena Essex Raceway on September 28 after the club confirmed it as the night for Lee Richardson’s memorial meeting.

Current World Champion Greg Hancock has already confirmed his attendance on the night as everyone comes together to race for and remember Richardson.

Event organisers Jon Cook and Alun Rossiter, in consultation with Richardson’s family, will decide the remainder of the line-up.

The Lakeside Hammers skipper died after a crash in Poland on May 13 and Richardson’s funeral took place today in his hometown of Hastings, before a wake which was held at Eastbourne’s Arlington Stadium.

All funds generated at the meeting will go towards the Richardson Support Fund, with admission for adults at £10 being a minimum donation, while kids aged 16 and under will pay £1.

September

Hammers co-promoter Cook said: “This is a sad week with Lee’s funeral and we feel that by September it will be our chance to remember and celebrate Lee, the speedway rider.

“I will be working with Alun Rossiter and Lee’s brother Craig to put the final field together.

“We want to include those riders closest to Lee and to make it a night to remember.

“I think the field will be worth £20 plus in admission at today’s prices and I know many of the speedway family who can afford it will donate that sort of sum.

“But we didn’t want to price anyone out of attending and for those travelling a long distance or struggling in the current climate we hope a ‘tenner’ is affordable so they can attend.”
