The former left arm spinner is impressed with the young pace duo

England selector Ashley Giles believes that Surrey’s pace duo of Jade Dernbach and Stuart Meaker have a big future ahead of them.

The pair have represented their country in One Day Internationals but have not yet made their bow in Test cricket.

And while the former England spinner, who took 143 wickets for England in 54 Tests, was not going to say how close they were to selection, he did have some positive words to say about the pace bowlers.

“Surrey have a good young side and Jade and Meaks are two of those players,” Giles told London24.

“They’ve both got pace and ability in both one-day and four-day cricket to do things with the ball so it bodes well for them.”

In the County Championship, Meaker has taken 24 wickets at 18, with career best figures of 8-52, while Dernbach has picked up 13 scalps at 22.
