The 33-year-old is looking to pick up “50 to 60” wickets
Essex bowler David Masters has admitted that he is looking to beat his wickets haul of last year but would settle for 60 victims.
The 33-year-old was the leading domestic bowler in the 2011 season, picking up 93 wickets, including a career best 8/10 against Leicestershire.
“Every year I look at getting 50 to 60 wickets,” he told London24. “Every asks me whether I’m looking to beat the 93 I got last year.
“I’d love to get more than last year. That’d be tremendous but it’ll be hard work.
“I’m always up for a bit of hard work but you need a bit of luck.”
Essex suffered two defeats in their opening two Championship games last season and Masters believes that his side have learnt from their errors.
“We had a bad start to the season last year and we started to come good towards the end,” he added. “A few of our young players have learnt from last season.
“We want to get promoted into Division One and we’ve got the players to do well in one day cricket.
“We’re looking to win a one-day trophy or get promoted in the Championship.”
