Frankel is impossible to oppose on the second day of Glorious Goodwood where victory would secure a quick-fire treble of Group races at this meeting for trainer Sir Henry Cecil.
Frankel, officially ranked the best racehorse in the world, faces just three rivals in the Group 1 Quipco Sussex Stakes at 15.10 today where he looks set to go off at odds of 1-16 as he bids to extend his unbeaten run to 12 races.
“Everything has gone as we could have wished with Frankel since the Queen Anne Stakes,” Sir Henry said. “We gave him an easy time immediately after Royal Ascot before bringing him back into fast work.
“He has pleased us with his work and is going to the Sussex Stakes in good shape. We are taking one race at a time with him and are hoping that he can extend his unbeaten record.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be at Goodwood on Wednesday as I have been undergoing some treatment. Although I am able to train my horses I’m not quite fit to go racing yet, but I hope to be fully recovered in the near future.”
The ten-time champion trainer was in superb form yesterday as he landed the Group Two Lennox Stakes with Chachamaidee and Group Three Gordon Stakes with Frankel’s full brother Noble Mission, who were both ridden by Tom Queally who rides Frankel today.
“He had to dig deep when I made him eyeball the other horse,” said Queally after prevailing by a nose on Noble Mission who is now as short as 10-1 for the St Leger. “He’s improving and he’s going places.”
