AMERICAN footballers and women’s footballers from the University of Hertfordshire have reached their respective cup finals.

The footballers booked their place in their first ever British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) cup final after defeating Northumbria in the semi-final at the University of Warwick.

Herts trailed 2-1 at half-time, but levelled with minutes to go and then netted the winner just before the end of 90 minutes.

They progress to the final which will be played at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park ground on May 2 where they will face Loughborough.

Hertfordshire Hurricanes American footballers are also celebrating after making the British Universities American Football League (BUAFL) final.

The Hurricanes beat Loughborough Aces 24-13 at their home, Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield.

The Hurricanes have a strong tradition both at UH and nationally.

Now entering the 18th year of operation, the Hurricanes are a powerhouse of the national university league, and hold a record breaking four National Championships, five Southern Conference Championships and 12 Eastern Division titles.

The BUAFL final takes place at the John Charles Stadium in Leeds on Saturday, April 21.
