Goalie cannot commit to 2012/13 season
Romford Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall needs to find a new goalie after Michael Gray made himself unavailable for the 2012/13 National Ice Hockey League season.
Gray had been a key performer between the pipes at Rom Valley Way for the past two seasons, helping Raiders to a league and trophy double last term.
But he has told Marshall he is unable to play a regular role due to increased work commitments, leaving Romford to look for a new no.1.
Marshall said: “Michael can’t commit to the schedule. I wanted him back but he’s decided not to play.
“It’s disappointing to lose him. He has been a good goalie for me over the last couple of years.
“There’s a rumour going around that he will be a player in the league below, but I’ve been in talks with other goalies.
“There are good goalies out there and it’s an opportunity for someone to step up.”
Glen Jackson filled in admirably during Gray’s absence last season, recording the first shutout against Chelmsford in club history.
But his return to the club has yet to be confirmed, leaving Raiders supporters to speculate about who might fill the crease.
