It has been a successful season for Hedgehogs and for Ferrets in South Molton.

Both South Molton Bowling Club teams have snapped up their divisional trophies in evening league competitions to gain promotion to a higher section.

The Hedgehogs are Division 2 winners while the Ferrets won Division 3A.

Afternoon league teams have not been as successful, although the Squirrels are in with an outside chance. They currently lead their championship by two-and-a-half points, but could be caught by Woolsery Stingers, who still have two matches and a potential six points in hand.

The club’s annual spring tournament was won by beaford, with Mutterton in second place and the Kents team from Torrington in third.

The club finals day was a Fred Gudgin affair. He played in six finals, winning three of them.

Rinks – Ken Peters, Colin Worth, Peter Norton and Ken Peters 12, Frank Jenkins, Brian Thompson, Hazel Deans and Fred Gudgin 2. Men’s pairs – Emrys Smith and Ron Moule 10, Stan Deveau and Fred Gudgin 9. Two-wood singles – Peter Norton 7, Fred Gudgin 2. Ladies singles – Linda Thompson 10, Hilder Isherwood 4. Ladies pairs – Linda Thompson and Hilder Isherwood 10, Joan Moore and Hazel Deans 9.
