MORE than 150 people turned out for Ladies’ Captain’s Day at Saffron Walden Golf Club last month.

Ladies’ captain Jean Burnham invited lady members and guests to join her for canapes and a BBQ at the Halfway House on one of the sunniest days in June.

She was delighted to welcome back some of her previous playing partners and some former captains.

The winning team of Jennie Hawkins and Rosemary Mandeville came in with 83 points, with Barbara Nicholl, Sue Amiss and Angela Reed the runners-up on 81 pts. Longest drive in one category went to Linda Kelsey and Sue Reid in the other. Nearest the Pin victors were: 5th Angela Reed, 7th Sue Amiss, 11th Corinne Parmentier and 18th Sue Reid.

• Meanwhile on Tuesday (July 3) 80 ladies took part in the Yellow Ball Competition at the club. First prize went to the team of Jan Wiseman, Helen Marchant, Marian Balaam and Sue Fletcher with 80 pts from countback, beating ladies’ captain Jean Burnham, Barbara Nicholl, Angela Reed and Valerie Oliver, who also finished with 80 pts.
