The 18-year-old from Saffron Walden produced an exceptional drive to earn 3rd place in race 2, narrowly missing out on the runner-up spot after battling for 2nd during much of the race.

He had started the second race from 4th in the reverse grid event after another impressive performance in race 1 which saw him take the chequered flag in 5th. Qualifying for race 1 and 3 had also gone well, with Blomqvist securing 9th and 7th place, respectively.

And today (Sunday) he completed a promising weekend with a 7th place finish, battling back from losing out on the first corner and dropping down to 10th.

At one point he was 6th and closing in on the leaders, though he eventually dropped a place.

After securing his first podium of the year in race 2, Blomqvist said: “So far, the weekend at Red Bull Ring has been going well.

“We decided to compete in the Euro Series at a very late stage and therefore hardly had any time to prepare prior to the season opener at Hockenheim.

“Considering all that, a podium finish here is a great result. We have all been working hard to achieve this.”
