The seniors’ weekly competition at Woodbury Park was a Texas Scramble, writes Carole Pye.

Tony Marshall, Dave Freeman and Martin Creed won with a score of 64.6 whilst the runners-up were Peter Warner, Ian Marvin and David Hathaway with 66.3.

In much improved weather conditions, the seniors hosted a very enjoyable friendly match against Churston and achieved a convincing win of 5-2.

With the condition on the course much improved and in welcome sunshine, the mid-week Stableford had an excellent turn-out. Paul May (40) was the overall winner, ahead of Paul Richie on 38.

Playing the away leg of their friendly match against Bovey, the Acorn men found the unfamiliar course a real challenge and went down to a heavy defeat but all agreed they had enjoyed the friendliness and the challenge.

The weekend stableford competition, the Oak’s Memorial Trophy, always attracts a large field.

The first division was taken by John Breading (39) closely followed by Peter Freeman on 38. The winner of the second division was Alex Hellier (42) Don Burwood took second with 37.

Craig Reynolds (42) won the third division and, with a better back six, was the overall winner of the men’s competition. Harry Cockayne (38) took second place. Su Calver (38) won the ladies Silver division, followed by Sue Persey on 35.

After count back Jane Cross won the Bronze division with 40 points and was the over-all winner of the ladies’ section just edging out Louise Neilson.
