MORE than 50 competitors took part in the ninth annual Taw Triple and Biathlon competition organised by Woolacombe Surf Life Saving Club in its 50th anniversary year.

The Biathlon comprised a 400m swim at the North Devon Leisure Centre and a 5km run around Rock Park. The Taw Triple had a shorter 3km run leg, but an additional 3.5km ski paddle along the River Taw.

Last year’s Biathlon winner and course record holder James Bunney of Saunton Sands went one better this year and took the Open Male Triple crown, recording the fastest overall time of the day. The Youth Male Triple race was won by Ryan Lark of Woolacombe. The Open Female Triple title went to Cassie James of Pen-Y-Bont, but the fastest overall female was Summer Whiteley of Woolacombe, who won the youth race. India Clark took the Youth Female Biathlon title.

In the Masters events, Simon Lawrence of Perranporth won the Triple, Adrian Clark the Biathlon and George Martin of Saunton Sands won the Female Biathlon.

Triple team honours were taken by Lily Nicholls and Grace Clarkof Woolacombe, with the young team of Lily Copp and Lauren Huggins of Woolacombe winning the Biathlon at their first attempt.
