Shane Byrne has extended his lead at the top of the British Superbike Championship following a truncated race weekend at Oulton Park.
Torrential rain at the Cheshire circuit meant Sunday’s second race had to be postponed, after Shakey had narrowly failed to finish on the podium in race one.
Having qualified fourth, the Sheppey rider tussled for the lead with Beckenham’s Tommy Hill and American John Hopkins, his closest challenger in the title race so far.
When Hopkins crashed out at the end of the fifth lap, Shakey was handed the lead but Hill moved to the front of the field when the race restarted after a safety car period.
Running third on the final lap, the two-time British champion was overtaken by Michael Rutter but Hopkins’ retirement meant he was still able to increase his championship lead to 32 points.
The series resumes at Brands Hatch on August 7.
