The wicketkeeper spoke after the 105 run victory

Surrey wicketkeeper Steven Davies was glad to get back into the middle again as he and Rory Hamilton-Brown enjoyed an opening partnership of 163 against Somerset.

The wicketkeeper scored 72 as his opening partner fired 101 as the Lions hammered the west country side by 105 runs.

“It’s always nice after two weeks away from cricket really to get a first wicket stand,” he said after the game.

“Rory did very well. I really enjoy batting with him. It’s a decent start.”

“He’s in great form. He’s the leading Championship run scorer for us and he hit his areas well.”

Davies was pleased with his batting performance and he also picked up a stumping as Surrey bowled Somerset out for 190 to win by 105 runs.

“I feel pretty good [with the bat],” he added.

“I’ve netted well and my keeping went well as well today.

“It was nice to get a stumping as well.”

Surrey were left frustrated last weekend as the rain forced the County Championship match against Durham to be abandoned without a ball being bowled giving Davies’ side a chance to refocus on one-day cricket.

“It gave us a chance to get in the nets indoors,” he added.

“Not playing cricket can be pretty awkward though.”
