Warwickshire batsmen Tim Ambrose and Rikki Clarke made light work of the remaining 41 runs as they cruised past Surrey.

The former England internationals only needed nine overs and a shade over half an hour to knock off the runs to claim 20 points for their efforts, leaving Surrey with just four.

Warwickshire started the day, which looked to have been on a knife-edge, well and they picked up four leg byes of Jon Lewis’ first over.

Gareth Batty, who claimed 10 wickets in the match, was keeping the batsmen honest and he continued his long spell with a maiden from his first over.

Lewis was not looking threatening and he was replaced by Stuart Meaker who was hit for four by Clarke in his first over to reduce the target into the teens and he added another two fours to reduce the target to nine.

Batty continued to whirl away but he lacked support from the pace bowlers and Rory Hamilton-Brown brought himself on for the last rites.

The skipper nearly picked up a consolation wicket with his first ball as Clarke played all around it but the batsman survived and moved into the 40s.

Ambrose, who finished 11 runs shy of his 100, hit the winning runs pushing the ball past Meaker, who misfielded as the visitors picked up the win to extend their lead at the top of the County Championship, with.
