Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping that something stupid happens at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has all but written off QPR’s chances of beating Manchester City but hopes something stupid will happen.
The Red Devils need to better the Citizens’ result against QPR to win the Premier League and the Scot believes that QPR face a similar challenge to his Aberdeen side when they beat Real Madrid 29 years ago in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
“Do you know what happened 29 years ago today?” Ferguson said.
“I took an Aberdeen team to beat Real Madrid in a European final. 11 players, home bred and the oldest player was 27.
“That is Queens Park Rangers’ challenge, to do an Aberdeen.
“The odds are stacked against them. City are in good form, at home. On the face of it you expect City to win, but as long as humans are humans you hope something stupid to happen.”
QPR know that a draw will keep them up and they will only be relegated if they lose and Bolton beat Stoke.
