The new deal will keep the midfielder at Loftus Road until the summer of 2014

The 35 year-old midfielder joined Rangers on a free transfer in June 2010 and has since gone onto make 91 appearances in all competitions.

Derry told the club’s website: “I’m absolutely delighted.

“It’s changing times once again with Harry [Redknapp] coming in and I find myself playing more now than I did under Mark Hughes.

“I’m just so delighted to commit myself to the club for another year – I’m enjoying my football more than ever.”

He added: “The fans played a major role in this decision.

“When you’re not in the side or even in the squad and you’re questioning whether or not you should move on, it always stuck in my mind the many happy memories I’ve had here.

“Now I’m back in the side and I’m appreciated by the fans as much as I have been since I arrived here and that means so much - it feels like home here.

“I’ve come to the club at the latter stages of my career but without question, I’ve enjoyed the happiest time of my career at QPR.”

Derry hailed the impact of Redknapp and the manager has guided them to an unbeaten January so far.

“Harry’s got everyone believing again,” he said.

“There’s a togetherness about us now. The team spirit – which comes through runs like this – is improving all the time.

“We’re all coming together at the moment. We’re showing that togetherness that is required.”

If Derry plays nine more games for the R’s he will reach the 100-matches milestone and he said: “I’m determined to hit that landmark figure. That will be a fantastic achievement.

“People who have followed me throughout my career will notice that I’ve moved on every two or three years, but when you hit that 100 game mark it’s a fantastic milestone.”
