London Skolars’ head coach Joe Mbu has been nominated for the Championship One Coach of the Year award.

Mbu and the other two nominees, Doncaster’s Tony Miller and North Wales Crusaders’ Clive Griffith, will learn their fate at the Championship Awards dinner in Leeds on Tuesday.

The nomination has been received on the back of a season that saw Skolars win seven and draw one of their 18 league fixtures, narrowly missing out on a place in the play-offs after being pipped to sixth place by Oldham by just two points.

Mbu, who has just completed his second season as Skolars’ head coach, said: “I’m honoured and flattered to have received this nomination.

“Everyone has worked hard this year to improve on the previous year’s performance and the challenge now is to keep the momentum going into next season.

“I think we were unfortunate not to make the play-offs but all eyes are now on next season and the goal will be promotion.”
