Transfer news: Rafael van der Vaart understands Luka Modric’s desire to join Real Madrid
Luka Modric’s desire to join Real Madrid does not surprise his teammate Rafael van der Vaart, who says every player would like to play for the Spanish giants.
The 26-year-old Croatian yesterday incurred the wrath of his club by refusing to go on a pre-season tour of the USA as he holds out for a transfer, but former Madrid man Van der Vaart sympathises with Modric, who has also been linked with Man Utd.
“You can’t compare Real Madrid with other teams because they are the biggest team in the world,” Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News.
“I think every player wants to play there,” added the Dutchman.
“The chairman is angry, but Luka is very upset with what is happening. I think everything will be fixed in three or four days.”
