Former Tottenham and Chelsea defender Graham Roberts has launched a scathing attack on new Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Two-time FA Cup winner Roberts doesn’t think the Portuguese has the personality to succeed at White Hart Lane and highlights his poor relations with some players during his time at Chelsea.

Villas-Boas was sacked after nine months in charge at Stamford Bridge and Roberts fears he could make the same mistakes again at Spurs.

“It is early days but when you hear him interviewed he’s dour, there is no happiness in his voice,” Roberts told the Daily Star.

“As a manager you have to pick up the boys. He needs to get a personality change.

“You might say that is the way he is but you’ve also got to be happy sometimes and that breeds confidence in the lads so that they play better.

“I look at Villas-Boas and I think, ‘He has got a problem this year’.

“To me it doesn’t look as if he has learned from his time at Chelsea when he spoke badly to some players.”

Villas-Boas has already been accused of unsettling defender Michael Dawson and new signing Hugo Lloris.
