The former Spurs boss has backed Andre Villas-Boas to do well in north London, if appointed

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has backed his potential successor Andre Villas-Boas to finish in the top four, should the former Chelsea manager be appointed.

Villas-Boas spent a disappointing nine months in charge of the Blues before he was sacked in March, with a win record of 47.5 per cent.

But despite his failure in west London, the Portuguese boss is favourite to take charge at Spurs.

“He has been to England. He has been to Chelsea. Things did not work out for him.

“The chairman at Tottenham (Daniel Levy) feels that he can do the job at Tottenham. He has certainly got the players.

“I think that they have the players there to be a top-four team every year and to challenge for a championship. That is my opinion. They have got the players there.”
