Andre Villas-Boas said he wants Spurs to achieve a top-three finish after watching his side beat Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane last night.
Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale put Spurs into an early two-goal lead and they held out for the three points despite a second half own goal from Bale.
Villas-Boas was delighted with the victory, which leaves his side in fifth place, three points behind London rivals Chelsea in third.
“We were extremely good in the first half,” he said.
“We managed to go 2-0 up, deserved it and it was important.
“Liverpool want to fight for the same objectives as us and at 2-0 down, they had to have a go.
“We didn’t look as good as the game finished, but we looked good at the beginning and we have to compliment the team for that.
“The players did well to hold on to the result. They showed great strength of character and the reward is a very important three points.
“It’s a result that puts us close to third position and that’s where we want to be.”
