Michael Dawson was full of praise for Scott Parker

Tottenham star Michael Dawson has hailed team-mate Scott Parker after his performances in the England engine room with Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard.

The pair combined brilliantly to secure a 1-0 win against Ukraine which, coupled with France’s 2-0 defeat to Sweden, meant that the Three Lions topped Group D and will face Italy in the quarter finals in Kiev on Sunday.

“You know exactly what you get with Scotty,” said Michael, who might well have been in contention for the squad himself but for injury.

“He’s a fans favourite and gives 110 per cent every time he steps on the pitch.

“You need those players in the team and we saw it from Scott all last season at Tottenham. Now he’s doing it for England.

“He was outstanding for us and I’m delighted he’s doing so well in such a big tournament.”
