Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas has hinted that young striker Harry Kane will be given his chance in the Spurs first team and is set to start on the bench against Newcastle.

The 19-year-old impressed while on loan at Millwall during the second half of last season, scoring eight goals in 23 matches and has caught the eye of the new head coach.

“Tottenham had three strikers of great dimension last year - Adebayor, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

“Normally there is one that doesn’t get as much time as he thinks he should get.

“When you play a system with one striker it is very difficult to get the third one to play enough.

“Normally in my teams I like to promote the third one as a young striker who is competing for that place a bit more aggressively.”

Last year at Chelsea that third man was Daniel Sturridge, who went on to play for England that season after scoring 13 goals in 45 games.
