Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood is hopeful Spurs’ injury crisis will ease ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

Tottenham’s injury list lengthened on Saturday when Roberto Soldado came off with a sore calf.

He will be assessed over the coming week. If he does not recover in time for Palace, Jermain Defoe could come back, along with Andros Townsend, who has been struggling with a hamstring problem.

“They (Defoe and Townsend) need more training sessions. Hopefully it will be a week or so,” Sherwood added.

“Maybe one or two will be back for next week. Erik Lamela is still injured with a thigh strain. We are not sure how long he will be - we just want to build him up gradually.

“Soldado is sore on his calf. He was touch and go whether he would play and he had to come off because we don’t want it to go entirely and have him missing for six or seven weeks.”
