Saffron Walden Town 3 Chatteris Town 4

SAFFRON Walden Town U15’s last match of the season was against Chatteris, who had already wrapped up the Cambridge & District Colts League.

The visitors were expecting to cruise to victory but they did not reckon on Walden’s end-of-season resilience, and the first half provided plenty of surprises.

It was a classic game of two halves with Walden taking a 3-0 half-time lead, only for Chatteris to roar back in the second half and win the match.

Danny Murphy-Moore opened the scoring with a sweet shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net, and doubled the lead with a well-taken second.

Luke Cooper made it three before the interval.

As expected, Chatteris fired out of the blocks in the second half. Walden held on and put in some last-ditch tackles but the visitors scored three times before, five minutes from the end, striking a blow with the winner.

Walden searched for an equaliser but their valiant first-half efforts went unrewarded.

Comberton Crusaders 1 Saffron Walden Town 6

TOWN continued their end-of-season renaissance with a dominant display away at Comberton on Sunday to ensure a mid-table finish in the A league.

They started brightly and went ahead through Dylan Reams who fired home from outside the box. Henry Goddard finished off from close range after and then made it 3-0 before the break, turning his marker and slotting home.

Walden scored again when Jack Young shot into the top corner from the edge of the box and Reams made it 5-0 with a coolly taken finish.

Comberton scored a consolation before Young added his second, running through and beating the onrushing keeper to complete the scoring.
