Romford youngster steps up in class
Romford’s Tommy Dale has landed himself a deal to ride in the British Superbike Championships.
Former Bower Park School pupil Dale, 18, has joined Team Haribo Starmix and will compete in the National Junior Superstock 600 series on a Triumph 675R in 2012.
Dale has been competing in motorsport since the age of six, racing Mini Motos back in 1999.
He competed in the Triumph Triple Challenge this year, finishing third overall, and won a Merit Award for his performances.
And he will now step up in class to ride alongside Kent-based team-mate Alex Olsen, 19, next year.
The two competed together in the TTC in 2009, with Dale winning the final race of the campaign ahead of his rival.
He said: “I’m overwhelmed to have been given this opportunity. It’s exactly what I’ve wished for ever since Alex and I went our separate ways two years ago. I can’t wait to start testing and working with Alex and the team over the winter months.”
As well as preparing for the first BSB race of 2012, Dale is studying A-levels in accounts, business studies and law at Havering College and is pursuing a career as a quantity surveyor.
When available, he helps his father in the family building business.
Haribo communication manager Louise Morrison said: “Tommy is very committed to his racing and his career, and we want to encourage that enthusiasm and help him to achieve his goals.”
Derek Sanders, Commercial Principal at Ride Now Racing, the organisation behind Team Haribo Starmix, added: “We’re here as an incubator team for British SuperBike racing, we spot talented young racers we feel we can help develop.
“We spotted Tommy’s skill back in 2008 and I’m delighted he’s now able to join us. We will be building on the success the team had in 2011 and hope for some strong results.”
