In-form King’s Lynn Stars rider David Howe faces a spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder during a grass track meeting in Worcester yesterday.

The British international, who also rides for Scunthorpe in the Premier League, has been in sensational form this season winning the Star of Anglia and top-scoring for Lynn, from reserve, in their first two Elite League meetings.

Initially it was feared that Howe had broken his upper arm but doctors revealed that the racer - who has worked his way into the main body of the Stars’ line-up this season - suffered a badly dislocated shoulder.

The 30-year-old said on Twitter: “Arm is not broken as first thought. Was quite badly dislocated, pain was unreal.

“Had to be put under to get it back in. Will have to take it day by day. I’ve never had pain like it, even morphine didn’t work. It hurt so bad I actually ordered them to cut my suit off.”

The popular racer has been inundated with get-well messages from fans and team-mates on the social networking site and is set to be released from Redditch Hospital today. As yet there is no estimated time of return but it is hoped Howe will be sidelined for weeks rather than months.

He will definitely miss Lynn’s Elite League clash with Belle Vue Aces on Wednesday with his doubling-up partner Jordan Frampton making his home Norfolk Arena debut in the process.

 King’s Lynn Young Stars will go into the second leg of their Knockout Cup tie with Mildenhall 15 points behind after struggling at West Row yesterday.

Without injured heat-leader Jake Knight, the Young Stars found themselves on the receiving end of a dominant display from the home side in the first half of the meeting. Dale Allitt’s side rallied in the middle of the tie but the home side showed their strength once more and took heat advantages in the final three heats to win the first leg 55-40.

The second leg takes place at the Norfolk Arena on May 2.

Don't waste any of your harvest

If you are now inundated with ripe tomatoes, juicy green beans, berries and herbs, don’t leave them to go stringy or mouldy because the freezer can go a long way to making your crops last well into winter.
