The mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence is to be made a Labour peer in the House of Lords.

Doreen Lawrence’s son was just 18 when he was killed by a gang of men in 1993 in Eltham.

Two men, Gary Dobson and David Norris, were convicted of Stephen’s murder at the beginning of this year - 20 years after Stephen was killed.

They are both serving life terms in prison.

It is understood that Mrs Lawrence’s peerage will be announced in a new peerages list expected to be published tomorrow.

According to the BBC, the 60-year-old’s nomination was agreed by Labour Party leader Ed Miliband before being put forward to Downing Street.
